Visiting the Simons Foundation

Thank you for your interest in visiting the Simons Foundation. We are dedicated to advancing our collective scientific understanding through research in mathematics and the basic sciences. The foundation hosts conferences, talks, and other events that foster collaboration and promote discovery in the research community. We also provide opportunities for the broader public to engage with science, including public lecture series with leading scientists and mathematicians.

Location

The Simons Foundation is located at 160 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan’s historic Flatiron District. Please note that the building entrance is on the south side of 21st Street just west of Fifth Avenue.

The Flatiron Institute, the foundation’s in-house research division, is located at 162 Fifth Avenue. The entrance is on the north side of 21st Street directly across from the foundation’s offices.

  

Directions and Transportation

 
The Simons Foundation is accessible via public transportation.

  • Subway: The nearest subway stops are the R, W, F, M, and 6 lines on 23rd Street and the 1 line on 18th Street.
  • Train: PATH to 23rd Street
  • Bus: M1, M2, M3, M55
  • Taxi or ride share: Drop-off and pick-up at the 21st Street entrances.
  • Car: Limited street parking is available. A public parking garage is available on 21st Street, and several other public garages are located nearby.

Safety and Security Guidelines

 
The Simons Foundation welcomes registered guests and event attendees at its New York City offices. To ensure the safety of our community, all visitors and event attendees must follow these guidelines:

  • All visitors and event attendees must complete a registration process in advance of entering the Simons Foundation and Flatiron Institute buildings.
  • You will need a government-issued photo ID such as a valid passport or U.S. driver’s license to gain entry to all buildings. The name on your ID must match the name used for your registration.
  • Visitors must follow all posted signage and any guidance provided by onsite staff and security.
  • All attendees must check in with security in the lobby each day before proceeding to their meeting or event location. Visitors should allow additional time to complete the security check-in.
  • If you are attending an event or meeting and have questions about entering the building, please check with your host or the event organizer before arriving.
  • We follow the latest health and safety guidelines from local, state, and federal authorities and update our protocols accordingly.
  • Event attendees are not permitted to photograph or film the event, including live streaming, audio, or video recording.
  • We do not tolerate verbally abusive, harassing, discriminatory, intimidating, or threatening language or behavior toward staff or other visitors. All event attendees and visitors must follow the Simons Foundation and Flatiron Institute code of conduct.
  • We reserve the right to deny entry or remove any visitor who is unable or unwilling to comply with our security and safety protocols or code of conduct.

Public Events

 
The foundation hosts public events at two venues:

  • the Gerald D. Fischbach Auditorium, located on the second floor of the Simons Foundation offices at 160 Fifth Avenue, and
  • the Ingrid Daubechies Auditorium, located on the second floor of the Flatiron Institute at 162 Fifth Avenue.

Both venues are accessible by elevator or stairs and offer seating for visitors with special access needs in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Photography and Filming

 
Please be advised that events may be photographed, filmed, and audio recorded by the organizers for exhibition, publication, and promotional purposes. Third parties may also be authorized to photograph or film events. The organizers and their partners may use this media in various formats, including websites, social media, news, and promotional materials.

By entering the event premises, you:

  • Consent to the use of your image, likeness, name, and voice for these purposes, and
  • Waive and release any claims related to the use of such media, including any right to inspect or approve the final content, and any claims for invasion of privacy, violation of the right of publicity, defamation, copyright infringement, or compensation.

If you do not agree to these terms, then do not enter the event premises.
